In preparing for the Kids Marathon on May 4th, the runners from the Golden Eagle Running Club joined up with some of the distance runners from the Somerset Area School District varsity track and field team during their practice on Wednesday, April 10th. The young runners were able to be encouraged by the varsity athletes, who also gave them some pointers on running techniques. After their workout, they were able to watch the Jr High track & field meet held at the Somerset track.
The Golden Eagle Running Club meets weekly and works on various running techniques, stretching and weight exercises, and of course goes through workouts to improve their running endurance. They have been meeting since mid-January and will conclude with runners participating in the Kids Marathon in Pittsburgh on Saturday, May 4th. "We are so excited to have the club run in the Kids Marathon again this year", said Coach Walker. "This will be our third consecutive year running in the race and we have 30 of our young athletes representing Somerset at this event!"

Students in Mrs. Halverson’s Family and Consumer Sciences Classes came up with an alternative March Madness bracket. Students ranked 64 fruits and veggies to determine the best-tasting healthy food. The Final Four: pineapple vs. watermelon and corn vs. orange bell pepper. The champion= pineapple! Six students had picked the correct winner in their brackets before the competition. Thanks to Great Day Juice Company, they each won a free Smoothie! 🏆

Six students from the senior high school attended a U.S. Citizenship Naturalization Ceremony on the campus of UPJ on Friday, April 5. They were invited as a result of scoring 100% on the U.S. Citizenship Exam as part of the Federal Judges’ Association Civics Challenge. It was an amazing opportunity to witness 31 people gain American citizenship through the naturalization process. The ceremony was conducted by Stephanie Haines, District Judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
