AP Environmental Science students visited the Conemaugh Generating Station as part of their energy unit. Students met with plant engineers to learn specifics about the operation of this coal-fired power plant, and then toured the facility. This generating station utilizes 15,000 tons of coal daily when running at maximum capacity, and the generated electricity feeds the grid to power parts of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, and Kentucky. Many productive conversations were had about the viability of continuing use of nonrenewable resources and developing renewables more in the future. Many thanks to our friends at Conemaugh for providing this incredible experience!
